Where I live there are lots of lovely places to walk around and since having Penny I have been getting out and exploring them more and more, one of my favourites is a nature reserve that I only recently discovered last year during a very wet February but since it’s been dry I take Penny through it every other day.

Local walks
There are two nature reserves in the area, one that is I cannot take Penny around due to the wildlife that live in it and one that is very popular among the dog walker community, they’re both classed as ‘parndon wood’ however one is protected and the other allows people to walk their dogs through.
The wood itself sits along side the Crematorium that you can walk past as you follow the man made trails through the wood and it’s also used by mud bikers who use the many dips and ditches for fun, I did try and do a little history search of the area but not much has come up regarding it which is sad, saying that though walking through it you do get a sense of history within the trees.
There are multiple trails throughout the wood itself, once you enter you can either head left or right but both trails at the start circle round and end up back where you started, you can either follow the trails or walk through the trees and explore the nature at your own speed.

As far as I am aware there is one pond within the wood itself, there is lots of the area to explore that we haven’t had a chance to yet so perhaps there is another one deeper and has at least three different exits out so as long as you follow the trails you won’t get too lost.
Penny very much enjoys this little woodland walk and I have taken my children around it too who jump over the fallen logs and kick up the leaves on the floor.
Once we get out of the woodland there is an amazing open field that during the summer time hosts some lovely tall grass that chatter with crickets.

A truly wonderful little slice of nature within a busy town, I am blessed to be surrounded by some amazing walks that can take you away from it all and feel like you aren’t 40 minutes from London and watching the changing of the seasons makes it even more magical.
But I must remember my boots the next time we visit! It’s getting muddier as the winter draws in
