Once a year my mum and I take a little holiday with my three children, for the past 3 years we have actually headed back to the same place simply because weve ended up loving it so much, its exactly the same this year during the summer holidays. we visit Mersea Island, which is a small, and I mean small, island in england in Essex.

Mersea Island is an island that is situtated within the estury area of the river Blackwater, according to the wikipedia the island has got evidence that the island was inhabited in pre roman times, and there is a church on the island that has been dated to the 7th century which we got to explore around the last time we visited as it was right by where we was staying and there was people inside setting up a wedding.
We do also stay in the same holiday park on the East Mersea called Coopers Beach which is a Park Dean holiday park. The girls have decided that because of my mum had her cat Cooper this place has become special to us, We get a wonderful lodge with plenty of space for everyone including a hot tub which Robin gets in the second she can. Over the years we have explored more and more of the island learning of its history and even enjoying the shops in the more populated West Mersea, there is a fantastic fish and chip shop in the little town as well as plenty of charity shops and cute gift shops.
The plan this year is to explore the museum that’s on the island and head to watch the water come in over the causeway. There’s plenty of unique wildlife that use the mudflats as a place to find food and I am going to use it as an opportunity to take photographs of them all, Mersea Island also is home to a vineyard that you are free to walk around and explore as well as a fun boating lake that is often full of activities during the summer months, The children had the opportunity to go on a water course but there are plenty of other things to do and once a year called Mersea Week which occurs for a full week in august, we usually miss it by a week when we go, it is a week long boating race that the yacht club hosts however we always see plenty of boats out in the sea which is always such a joy to see.
There is plenty of beautiful green spaces around the island including the Cudmore Grove County Park that is right by the esturies, we went and explored this the last year we went when my dad and step mum came to visit for the day, and it is one of the few places left in england that has the native red squrriels, however we have yet had the chance to see any of them but it doesnt mean we wont try again when we visit this august.
It is a very peaceful place, there is no 4G on the island so the second you cross over the causeway your phone will loose connection but once a lot of the resturants and holiday parks have their own wifi that you can sign up for, but the lack of 4G can actually be a blessing as the distraction of the phone isnt there during the day when you want to just have fun.
We really love it there and cannot wait to head back again for another peaceful week in the summer.
