I have been thinking about why i blog for a little while now, and this little daily prompt popped up on my suggestions and it got me pondering again.
Why do I blog?
Originally it was simply just to pass the time, I started on an old name a long time ago, 9 years to be exact when I had a sleeping newborn resting on my chest I really wanted to go back to what I used to do and write. In my teenage years I blogged all the time, privately of course, on this website called Livejournal. I had made so many good friends over the years from it and joined lots of fun communities of like minded people, this includes Top Gear but of course over the years people drift apart or stop posting all together, one of the things which caused me to stop was simply just the fact that life took over and I had my first child in 2010 and I found that I lost any enjoyment of it.
Over the years I have always considered going back to it, occasionally id start up a new livejournal in the hopes that I would write things down but sadly I didn’t keep it up and it slowly faded into the background.4
In 2016 I had my third child, Robin, I had two children already in the school system and one small and silent newborn who didn’t really do much, and being inspired by other bloggers that I saw on twitter, decided to just start it up again but this time use WordPress.

I used the name of ‘Mummy Cat’ as I was a mummy and I had three kittens, and i began to share my world with people online, I got lots of followers on WordPress and reached 2000 followers on twitter and I loved every second of it, Around 2017 I decided to rebrand, I am not sure why I rebranded, possibly to appear more adult in the blogging world and I changed it to what it is called today, Sarah Lou Writes.
In 2020 sadly things changed, Covid happened and I took a huge step back from the blog, I was focusing on my children and making sure their schooling was taking care of, I also was dealing with something else that I really cannot discuss on here, lets just say I took everything offline, deleted my old twitter and stopped.
I did regret it completely, I wish I kept it going but I cannot change the past unfortunately, but in the early months of 2023 I decided to try again, I couldn’t go back and have that old domain anymore but I still wanted to keep the Sarah Lou Writes branding.

I had the itch to do it all over again but this time with a slightly different outlook on life, I don’t mind if I don’t get hundreds of views on the posts I write or if brands don’t reach out to me, and when they do I treasure each one of them, I share now just my life and the little things I experience, meals out and adventures with an honest view..
I experienced an event that was shared to me and was gifted to me, we travelled 2 hours to go this event and I saw all the influencer’s and bloggers praise it and say it was wonderful but the experience I had was completely different, I decided to just be honest with what I share and experience rather than sing praises for something that just wasn’t worth it..
That experience made me want to write and blog today, Not many bloggers give honest reviews on things that they deal with because I guess they’re afraid of being honest or they’re paid to say good things.. If I do not enjoy something I can promise you, I will tell you about it.
Why did you start blogging?
Sarah
Blogging is different for everyone and I appreciate your honesty in this post about why you blog personally x
