Nottingham Castle // Days out

I feel like all I do is complain whenever I go anywhere new, however sometimes, places just do not live up to the standard that I expect them to be. While on a visit to my partners parents we decided to take a little road trip to Nottingham Castle. Having only been to Nottingham once before with the disastrous trip to visit some Dino’s that just weren’t worth it.

However as I said, this time it was a spur of the moment adventure to none other than Nottingham Castle.

Nottingham is famous for a few things, one being the story of Robin Hood, who essentially was a highway man who if you follow the stories, stole from the rich to give to the poor with his band of merry men and of course Nottingham Castle.

After visiting Wales a few years ago and visiting the stunning castles in and surrounding Anglesey myself and my partner decided to perhaps visit another famous castle while in the area. The journey itself wasn’t too bad, driving from Lincolnshire to Nottinghamshire isn’t as bad as driving from Essex so we made good time and with high hopes we walked up to the castle.

Only to find a place that had nothing to do with the history of Nottingham, no mention of any famous battles or kings.. but an art gallery.

Perhaps I was spoilt by Wales with their castles and history. But I was expecting to see at least something about its past. The art was okay, but I felt disappointed in the lack of anything that could reference back to the castles past. There was some plaques outside the castle you could read about and the grounds surrounding the area was extremely pretty. But the time was spoilt by just the sheer lack of history.

We booked tickets to also visit the caves under the castle itself. Which was pretty interesting despite our tour guide having no clue about what she was talking about.

Funnily enough the first time I ventured to Nottingham was to that Dino place I talked about before. Not saying that Nottingham in itself is a disappointment, and perhaps I should try other parts of it next time I’m near the area. I just wished there was more about the history inside the stunning castle than just an art gallery.

There was some bits on the top floor which housed some items from the wars, which we always find interesting, and possibly comparing it to Warwick Castle which wowed us with education and fun things to do and see it fell a little flat.
