It’s finally Comic Con time, we try and go to either the May or October one but as Neil is away in October we went to the May MCM comic con. MCM started in 2002 and was originally just called Movie Comic Media started as a simple expo that grew over time and will be celebrating their 25th anniversary next year which I can imagine will be a bigger and exciting event than the normal comic cons that are held, they events are usually on for two weekends a year in London, end of May and end of October.
I’ve always wanted to go but it’s been a big anxiety for me, no one was willing to support me through my anxiety around crowds but Neil wanted to go a few years ago and we both went together, I did enjoy my first experience however the more I’ve gone over the years the more I’ve enjoyed it, we go together on the Friday and take my children on the Sunday as a family. This year is slightly different as my son will not be joining us but we always end up having a fantastic time.
The main thing why we go is the shopping, there are so many fantastic little independent stores, our big favorites are Sarah Graley and KimmySparks but I had seen a bunch of smaller artists on TikTok that I really wanted to see, I favorited them and we went and hunted them down.
Now this time the main goal was to find as many Pombom charms, badges and stickers we can find as we just adopted the lovely Penny the Pomeranian which is what we did, I got a couple prints as well that I had been after and a few that were surprises.
One of the things I really enjoyed doing this year was a trip down artist alley where we found two stands that had the option to get some custom art done, so Neil and I commissioned one art of both Atlas and Penny and two separate pieces of both of them. Supporting smaller artists is such an important thing and it’s much better than putting money into the scalpers and AI generated rubbish that also appears.
We had such a fantastic time walking around and buying goodies on the first day and on our second day, which was the Sunday, the girls got the chance to buy things themselves, I was dragged back to Sarah’s stand and Robin got to show off her Pizza Witch cosplay and Amelia was on the hunt for things for her friend as well as some Straykids bits, we then had some yummy food from the food and drink section, there was even an ice cream van which we too full advantage of and on the way out we stopped off at Rodeo Doughnuts and picked up some sweet treats for later… I am still thinking about them.. yum yum.

**
The only real downside of going on both friday and sunday is that you notice the big difference of stands that are about, friday seems to have more indie stands and less drop shipped things but on the sunday you seem to struggle to find the fun things you saw the days before, I did manage to find a stand to get some artwork that I had my eyes on but every turn you make it was another Ali express/Temu mass produced rubbish and mystery bags full of knock off items that arent worth the price that they’re sold at, the lay out felt a lot different from years prior as well and the artist alley was utterly grammed full of people that it was hard to even view the stands..
Despite all of that I am excited as always to go along next year, If you do decided to go I highly recommend that you get yourself priorty tickets as you get in slightly earlier than the general tickets and it isnt as busy to be able to explore and shop without getting too overwhelmed.
