It’s horror films time!
In a previous post I shared with you all the child friendly scary films that you can enjoy as a family, but this post is going to be much different. Horror films are my go too, I have watched so many at this point I sit there and predict endings or plots, which I know some might think is boring but I feel it just makes me more excited for them.
My love for horror films started when I watched a movie because two of my favorite actors starred in it, it shocked me and I wanted more, over the years I have watched countless slashers, thrillers and gory horrors so I wanted to share with you all my personal favorites that I love.
My favorite horror movies
- Event Horizon – the one that started it all, Sam Neill and Jason Issacs both star in this and I love them both, it utterly terrified me when I first saw it and still freaks me out to this day. It’s a Sci Fy horror about a ship, The Event Horizon, which can open a worm hole to travel through to a different part of space and all hell breaks loose… literally! I got this on VHS and then eventually on dvd and I believe you can also stream it on Amazon. It’s very early 2000’s but I just love it

- Scream – The Scream series is basically a parody of the old slasher movies which is funny when they made Scary Movie as that is a parody of a parody! I got Neil to watch them recently as he hadn’t seen them and it was fun knowing who the killers were and him guessing. I’ve watched all of them and while I’m not the biggest fan of the new ones I still enjoy them. Love a good slasher horror
- From Hell – This movie started my interest in serial killers (don’t judge me!!) it’s a movie based on the killings of Jack the Ripper starring Johnny Depp, I also watched this around the time my love for horror started, it’s obviously not all true but follows the murders and the police who tried to find out who he was with a little super natural undertones. A good one for those who like the historic side of horror.
- Alien – The Alien series is just perfect, it’s spawned so many movies and tv shows based around that original film, once again a Sci Fy horror.. in space no one can hear you scream.. literally, I often quote lines from this series and of course love the cutie Jonesy. I think we all might have seen this one at one point.

- The Thing – my old friend introduced me to The Thing and told me a funny line his friend said when he first watched it and to this day I utter that when I watch it ‘I bet that dog as a human brain’ while it didn’t, it’s still a fantastic body horror, I also like the prequel as well which isn’t something many say. I think it adds a little extra to the story.
- Shaun of the Dead – the first ever rom com zom film, I saw this in the cinema just recently for the 20th anniversary and it was just as amazing then as it was 20 years ago, the whole Cornetto trilogy is part of my comfort films which i occasionally just put on in the background while I do things around the house, I can quote this film line for line.
- Train to Busan – Kdramas are one thing but kmovies.. I can’t not mention Train to Busan on this last, I said this before on my horror tv shows list, Korean cinema just knows how to do a zombie film! It has everything and you will end up crying at the end.

And finally
- 28 days later – how could I not add the wonderful Danny Boyle onto my list, the third film was released recently and loved it, not many people understood it but it was a typical Alex Garland and Danny Boyle creation and I am very excited to watch the other films when they’re released next year. British made horrors have always had a place in my heart and I just love Danny Boyle!
And that’s it, I do have soo many more that I could’ve added to the list but then this post would be 2000 odd words long.
What are your favourites? Are they similar to mine or do you have different ones?
Sarah
