My Favorite Scary TV shows // blogtober 2025

Much like films, I have watched plenty of tv shows in my life, but there are some that have stood out to be my favorite simply because they are scary. Obviously there aren’t as many scary tv shows than there is films but it doesn’t mean that they aren’t out there and filling us all with fear when we are watching them.

My favorite scary tv shows

• The X files – I watched this probably when I shouldn’t have, however I loved Mulder and couldn’t look away, aliens aren’t always considered scary however some of the ‘monster of the week’ episodes were 100% terrifying, imagine a man feel the need to eat your liver as he needs it in his own body or even a sea creature that reacts to your sweat to essentially electrocute you. One of the monsters of the week that really scared me when I first got into the show was Detour, which was about this creature in the woods that blended in to its background and trapped people underground.. creepy!!

• Buffy the Vampire Slayer – I can rewatch Buffy so many times, I adore Buffy I even own a replica of the scythe from the final season, much like the X files it followed the same sort of pattern with a continued story as well as the monsters of the week, not truly scary but still is a fantastic and fun show.
• Criminal Minds – I have been rewatching this show recently and some of the things that they feature are utterly frightening, it’s all obviously based on true crimes and what other humans can do to another if their life took a different path, I read a lot about serial killers (don’t call the police on me) and thanks to watching Criminal Minds I’ve been learning what episode is inspired by others. Truly a real nightmare!

• Millennium – written by the team that created the X files, it’s a lot darker and covers crime that is more on the side of real life, however series 2 had more humor as it was taken over by a different writing team it ended with an end of the world virus and series 3 changed it all up again, it was along time since I saw the series but it did leave a lasting impact on me and I will always recommend it for something for people to watch
• The Guest – here is where I start talking about all the wonderful Korean horror that I’ve had the chance to see, The Guest is honestly terrifying, it’s about three people who are all connected through possession and a demon that wants to rule it all.
• Hellbound – based of a comic, which I’ve noticed a lot of kdramas are, this one is scary simply because it’s just so unknown, it’s recently had a second season which left more questions, people being wiped off the face of the planet because they committed a sin, cults are born and no one is safe anymore. I hope a third season is on the horizon.
• Kingdom – zombie period kdrama, this is a series I always recommend to people when they ask about any good shows on Netflix, only two seasons have been released and I wish there was more.

And finally

• The Last of Us – I never played the game, but I watched people play it and being a little bit of a Pedro Pascal fan but I really wanted to watch this show, it’s a scary take on what might happen if a fungus took control, a fungus that does exist in the world today but only takes over insects. While the infected aren’t such a big piece in the story they are always there and that opening sequence that showed the outbreak was amazing. Series two wasn’t as loved as much as it should be given we lost Pedro however it carried nthe story and the fear of the infected. Looking forward to how series 3 plays out.

And that’s it, there are so many out there however that I didn’t mention but these are the ones that always stuck with me or in the case of Buffy become part of my rewatch list
