Makeup wasn’t always something that I did growing up, sure I messed about with body glitter but I never really cared about doing my face up, however when I entered my 20’s I decided to try makeup for the first time.
Let’s just say I wasn’t very good at it but I feel over time, after experimenting and learning new tricks from YouTube I have perfected my own makeup routine to how I like it.
Price has and will always be a huge factor in what I spend my money on, my makeup is rarely big brands as I simply cannot afford them, not saying I wouldn’t love to own some higher branded makeup however there is nothing wrong with the cheaper ‘drug store’ brands such as Rimmel and maybeline, I have once or twice treated myself to some high brands such as a Mac lipstick and a Too Faced mascara, I always find that I go back to the tried and tested cheaper end of the spectrum.
My makeup routine
Starting with a base I always moisturise my skin I use Simple replenishing rich moisturiser whenever I feel that my skin is a little thirsty, usually after I have a shower and wash my hair, recently I have been playing around with primers, the one that I’m using at the moment is from Elf and it’s been lovely on my skin, I truly notice a difference when I don’t use it under by foundation.

Under my eyes to hide the lovely black bags that I get from not sleeping properly at night I use Collections, I also dot this about my face to hide any dark spots that I may have, I often try different brands when it comes to this, recently I’ve tried an Elf concealer however I have found that I picked the wrong shade but that’s my fault not theirs ha!
Once I’ve done my concealer I put on some foundation, I use a mix of shades, my skin is relatively fair and being that I am in Essex I am a bit paranoid that I may accidentally turn myself orange with the wrong one, at the moment I am using an Elf foundation, I try not to wear too much as my skin can sometimes break out into spots, my main goal is to try and keep my makeup as natural as possible which I think I have achieved.
For my eyebrows, which are very fair I have been using Morphe, originally when I was experimenting with makeup I found in a 80’s makeup book that gave a tip of using an old mascara brush to shade your eyebrows to a darker colour, thankfully the makeup companies eventually made something that I can purchase and do my eyebrows to how I have always wished they would be, I rarely leave my house without having my eyebrows done which often gets comments from family, however my eyebrows have been one of my biggest flaws that I have with my face, someone once pointed it out that I looked weird because of it and I’ve never let that go ha!

I finally end everything with my mascara, I usually go for maybeline for mascara but almost always try different ones, however I rarely stray from different brands when I am in a hurry to purchase as I know that they work so well, I used to be well known for doing a good cat eye liquid eyeliner flick however after a few years of lack of practice I’ve not managed to achieve it since.
Now with shadows, I rarely use these unless I plan on going out for the evening, and occasionally add some glitter just because it’s sometimes required.
As I said my makeup routine is pretty basic and boring however it’s worked well for me these past few years, I have followed trends of course, I definitely paid money for the rainbow highlighter as I am a magpie, however I always go back to what I feel is tried and tested.

I use a lot of drug store products, and most of mine come from the dollar store! I love that elf primer, that has worked really well for me as well as maybelline mascara. The only products I wont go super cheap on is mascara and foundation, seems like those are always clumpy and crease easier from cheaper brands at the dollar store.
Sometimes simple is better! I wish I would learn that but every time I try to go minimal I take a step back and see 5 other things I can change using makeup and I am never happy🤣
i stick to midrange when it comes to foundation, but my skin can be a pain sometimes and be dry in places that weren’t dry before, there is an outlet place nearby which i am considering going to, to find some higher end half priced foundations.
