Sleep is important, and more often than not we never seem to get the right amount of it for our health, me being one of them, I always find myself either going to bed to late or waking up far to early and feeling completely drained the next day, Or waking up all through the night from a disturbed night.
So I decided I wanted to try and find good and simple tricks that can help me get a good nights sleep that aren’t going to effect your health in a bad way, So simple that you too can do them yourself and add them to your daily lives to aid in having a much better and relaxing nights sleep

Tricks to aid a good nights sleep
- A warm glass of milk – I know its a little babyish, however there is something about having a lovely mug of milk before going to bed, You could even turn it into a hot chocolate for a little sweet kick, It is as i said a baby thing, as babies love their warm milks and I guess that its a throwback to that time of being a child. I know it is for me, and it truly helps me feel sleepy and ready for bed.
- Reading a book/magazine – We all do it, we all sit there on our phones as we lay down into bed and truly isn’t a good thing, picking up a book will help the eyes feel heavy quicker and you are getting away from the screens we’ve all stared at all day, this with that mug of milk.. perfect
- Setting the mood – Get that room cozy. I have a lot of fairy lights around my home and they all make me feel relaxed and sleepy, I have a set in my bedroom that is wrapped around my headboard and turning them on before I go to bed creates that atmosphere of calm, I did something similar when my children were babies and would keep the bedrooms dark so when they did wake up for their night time feeding, they learn that its still night time and its best to go back to sleep
- Avoid Technology – I mentioned this a little bit in the reading a book part but really setting your alarm and muting your phone and popping it in charge, leave it and rest. ignore the pull of social media and switch off that brain.
- Be active during the day – I know this one can be hard if you like me work in an office, but once I am home I am often running around cooking dinner and dealing with the house, I always find if i am more active, the tired and relaxed I am for bed I am, The less I do the less likely I will go to bed at a good time, Try squeezing in a walk into your day to day routine and it should help.
- Natural sleep aids – Bach’s Rescue sleep night can be so helpful if you need an extra help to relax and fall asleep, I use Rescue Remedy during anxiety but their Sleep Night really helped me when I went through a load of stress that stopped me from falling asleep a while back, it might be a placebo who knows but I found it truly helped.
- White Noise – I realise I said avoid technology however sometimes it does help, iPhone have a option on their settings for a white noise machine that has 6 options of white noise to use, but I am a sucker for the distant rumbles of thunder and rain videos that are on Youtube. I used to use them with my youngest but found that they are also perfect for adults too.

and those are my tips that I have found help me when I want to try and get a good nights sleep, I am sure there are loads out there and everyone has their own tips that they find helpful. A lot of it has been trail and error and some nights I go out like a light and snore the night away, but its always handy to find new tips on getting the best sleep you need.
