When i first got married a lot of the decision making was taken away from me, I was told that it was my big day and any suggestions I had simply got pushed aside for whatever someone else wanted, in the end of it it wasn’t my big day but my now ex mother in laws.
When I got engaged for the second time at Christmas 2023, I already wanted to do things much more differently. My partner and I did sit down and discuss things that we both would like in a future wedding and I reminded him of the issues I had previously with someone else taking full control and not allowing any of our ideas to work.
Thankfully Neil agreed and I shared with him some of the things I really wanted to change or have at our future wedding that I never got the opportunity to have with the first one and decided to share with my blog of the little things I thought would make our special day, OURS!

My Second Wedding
- Hire a photographer – the last time I entrusted my step mum to take photos with my Nikon, however I despise the photos that was taken, thankfully my uncle who does know his way around a camera did manage to taker some nice photos but there wasn’t many, this time I want to spend some money on hiring someone who knows exactly what they are doing, can edit the images for us and we would then have some lovely pictures to treasure
- Not let anyone take control – they can suggest things, however the decision making will come down to myself and Neil, if we don’t like something or agree with it, its not going to happen. if we want the wedding and reception on the same day, that’s what we want.
- Keep it small – This is simply going off on the fact that last time I had a huge after party which I regretted, it was nice having all my family and friends but a lot of them do not talk to me anyway. there is only a few select people I want to attend and I don’t think having someone who I don’t see at all and don’t know coming to a special occasional is something that anyone would want.
- Be non traditional – and meaning, not wear the white dress, I don’t like wearing white clothes, its not who I am as a person, I’ll happily wear a dress, but just something that isn’t the typical ‘bride’ esque. I felt extremely uncomfortable being all in white and being the centre of attention. I know that’s what a wedding brings but I want to feel like myself on a day when I know my anxiety is going to be high.
- Have a proper honeymoon – Last time we had a weekend in a hotel, this time I would love to have a week away somewhere without the children and enjoy the first week of married life together, I do not know where, but somewhere that isn’t a posh hotel in Harlow ha, not that there was anything wrong with it, it was a lovely hotel that’s unfortunately been turned into flats, but I want to just go away for a nice week to a nice place and relax.
I think all together with having a second wedding and in the long run a second marriage is making sure that you can and are willing to do things differently, and I hope that when we do finally tie the knot that all our hopes and dreams do come together and we can celebrate at the wedding of our dreams. obviously my fiancé has his ideas as well, these are just some of those little things that I wasn’t able to achieve first time around and would love to have the second time.
Second marriages are obviously a very strange experience for someone who has gone through a divorce and has unfortunately has that fear of failure, but I am excited for the years to come
