In the town of Harlow there has been a restaurant that has been a staple of the town for years, many of those who had a night out drinking would stop off to get some noodles on the way home or enjoy a lovely meal out with friends on special occasions, Over the years the restaurant evolved into what it is today, a well loved piece of Harlow’s culinary history.
I have been meaning to write about Mui and Koko for a while, Its always one of those places that you just want to dig in once the food arrives at the table, but I remembered to take the camera with me this time and decided to share with you all the yummy things Neil and I enjoy at our favourite place to eat in town.
Originally the restaurant was under another name which was King Du, which also had a separate dining area in another part of town and from what we can tell from rumour’s that are about, they joined forces with a noodle bar at this new location and closed down the older location but has continued to thrive since.

Mui and Koko is located right in the centre of town, which is perfect for a place to stop after a days shopping or even date night which is what Neil and I went to enjoy, I booked for our table over the phone which I was glad I did as despite going on a Sunday which often isn’t a busy evening, it was extremely busy. They gave us a nice window seat which was perfect to watch the world go buy while we ate our meal, The menu hasn’t really changed much over the years, Mui and Koko still offer everyone’s favourites but have also added new items as the years go on.

What’s funny about going out for dinner at Mui and Koko is that we often stick to the same dishes, I always get pork gyoza as they are simply perfect and no difference this time and Neil went for salt and pepper chicken which he often takes home to eat cold (as its apparently better cold) as well as some spring rolls to share but most of what we order we share anyway.
For our mains I stuck to my usual sweet and sour chicken with rice, sometimes I get it with noodles but fancied rice today and Neil got a delicious looking ramen.
Mui and Koko also offer bubble tea, green tea, soft drinks as well as a small selection of alcohol and bottles of tap water for the table and a small puddings menu, we very rarely get any puddings as the main dishes are always so big and filling, it was in fact so filling that Neil took his ramen home to have for another day. What I can say is despite the huge portion sizes the food never loses out on quality, whenever we eat at Mui and Koko we are satisfied and stuffed, everyone who we speak to that has been there for a meal has all said the same thing, eyes are always bigger than bellies as they say, but I don’t consider it a bad thing that portion sizes are big, they allow you to take what you don’t eat home.
Mui and Koko are also on GoGetters, which is like Just Eat, they was one of the first takeaway restaurants on GoGetters and it helped supply those who was isolated during covid get their noodle fix, while the prices are a little higher due to delivery costs, I personally think its worth it.
If you are ever in the ‘lovely’ town of Harlow Essex in the near future I highly recommend with bells on them to visit Mui and Koko to enjoy their wonderful meals.
