Now I am going to admit it, I am not the most green fingered person, that person is my mum who for some reason every year has an amazing garden full of beautiful flowers and bees. But that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t attempt to do something with my little patch of grass outside my house.

First port of all is of course buying the plants, I had a rough idea what plants I wanted to add to the garden, The garden itself has a tiny strip of mud that I have used to add plants and sunflowers in as the year goes on but I have an idea to extend it slightly to add more space for plants and possibly some rocky features. I also would love to create an above ground pond for wildlife to enjoy and as long as I don’t do any major works to my garden it shouldn’t effect my tenancy agreement. Fingers Crossed!

Originally in the patch of dirt that I have there’s some ornate grasses, a poppy that comes back every year and some sorry looking lavender.. along with weeds but after a little trip to one of our many garden centres I picked up some new plants to add to the garden.
The garden centre that we visited is called Tyndall’s which is owned by the parent company Plants Galore, situated in the very wet Lee Valley, There are actually so many garden centres in the Lee Valley area and I often visit Tyndalls to visit their in house fish shop to either stock up on fish or get worms for Amelia’s axolotl but today the plan of action was plants.

The plants I picked up are ;
- Dicentra Spectabilis
- Allium ‘Purple Sensation’
- Lupinus (aka Lupins)
- Scabiosa Blue
- Salvia Microphylla

Now I didn’t go nuts, I know at this time bedding plants cannot go into the ground and wont be able to deal with the colder nights of April but I picked up plenty that can, I didn’t sadly get any foxgloves which are simple my favourite but once the weather gets warmer hopefully I will be able to get some of those

The plan also is to create some raised beds that I can use to grow my own veg again this year, usually I sow them from seed but this year time got the better of me and I didn’t manage to get anything in mud, However I do have some sweet pea seeds that I plan on growing for their lovely scented flowers.
Ideally I want to do the usual, tomatoes, my daughter Amelia loves it when I grow tomatoes as she helps herself when they’re ready to be picked but I am also tempted to give cucumbers and peppers a go. I tried peppers two years ago however they produced fruit to late into the season and I feel buying some already grown plants would be the better plan.
These I am hoping to pick up when the weather is warmer along with the foxgloves and bedding plants as the season goes on but I feel the ones I have now will make a good start on making my tiny little garden less of a dumping ground and more of a place to relax for myself and the insects.
